For Coaches & Scouts
Stop Guessing. Start Projecting.
Goaltender evaluation at the amateur level is broken. CreaseLogic provides the objective, context-aware data you need to identify talent—and make confident roster decisions.
The Evaluation Blindspot
The current recruiting cycle is broken by mutual skepticism. You can't trust public stats, highlight reels are cherry-picked, and tryouts are too short to evaluate properly.
You dismiss GAA/SV% as useless. You dismiss highlight reels as "cherry-picked." You dismiss self-tracked stats as biased. So what's left? Height.
How does a .905 SV% at the AAA level translate to Junior? Without normalized data for defensive environment, you're guessing. Elite goalies on bad teams are invisible.
Drafting a 6'6" goalie who busts is a "good bet that didn't work out." Drafting a 5'10" goalie who busts is a "judgment error." So you default to size.
What CreaseLogic Is
CreaseLogic is an advanced goaltender evaluation platform that provides objective, context-aware performance data—the metrics that matter for projecting how a goalie will perform at the next level.
Like Pro Football Focus—But For Goaltenders
Just as PFF rejects the box score, CreaseLogic rejects traditional stats. We grade every shot to build a truth that exists outside standard official scoring.
Human-Graded Shot Analysis
Every shot is annotated by trained analysts who understand the game. We don't rely on automated algorithms that miss screens, deflections, or defensive breakdowns.
Environment-Adjusted Metrics
GSAx (Goals Saved Above Expected) isolates goaltender performance from team defense. See which goalies are elite relative to the shots they face—not just their team's record.
The Peer Benchmark Engine
We annotate both goaltenders in every uploaded game, building a "League Average" baseline for every age group. Compare prospects against their actual competition.
How We Evaluate Goaltenders
Our human-in-the-loop annotation process captures objective reality—not subjective opinions.
Video Capture
Goalies upload high-resolution footage from glass-mounted action cameras (typically GoPro). We annotate both teams' goaltenders simultaneously.
Shot Identification & Classification
Trained analysts identify every shot on goal and classify it based on pre-shot movement, location, and visual obstruction: Grade X (Defensive Breakdown), A (High Danger), B (Medium), C (Low).
Event Sequence Tracking
We track every event leading up to each shot—passes, carries, screens—and every event after: rebounds, freezes, stoppages. Objective facts, not opinions.
Spatial & Temporal Analysis
We compute distance traveled, speed, angular change, and velocity relative to net center. This spatial data informs our xG (Expected Goals) model.
Performance Metrics Generation
We generate GSAx, SVAx, RVA (Rebound Value Added), save percentages by zone, and peer-benchmarked comparisons. You get a full performance profile—not just a highlight reel.
Why CreaseLogic > EliteProspects + Prayer
You can look up a prospect on EliteProspects, see their GAA/SV%, and hope for the best. Or you can get the full story.
Traditional Scouting
- • GAA/SV% with no defensive context
- • No shot quality data
- • Can't compare across leagues/levels
- • Highlight reels show cherry-picked moments
- • No rebound control metrics
- • No way to validate improvement trajectory
CreaseLogic
- • GSAx isolates goalie from team defense
- • Every shot graded by danger level
- • Peer-benchmarked against age group
- • Full game context, not cherry-picked
- • RVA quantifies rebound control
- • Longitudinal tracking proves development
What You Get From CreaseLogic Profiles
When a prospect has a CreaseLogic profile, you get the full story—not just the box score.
Environment-Adjusted Performance
See how the goalie performs relative to shot difficulty. A .895 SV% on a weak defensive team might be elite (+2.5 GSAx). A .920 on an elite defensive team might be average (-1.2 GSAx).
Save% by Shot Grade
See performance broken down by danger level. Are they elite on Grade C (perimeter) but struggle on Grade A (high danger)? You need to know before you sign them.
Rebound Control Data
RVA (Rebound Value Added) quantifies whether they kill plays or create second chances. This metric predicts which goalies will succeed under pressure.
Workload Capacity
See how they perform under heavy shot volume. Do they maintain performance when facing 40+ shots? Or do they fade as workload increases?
Development Trajectory
Longitudinal tracking shows improvement over time. A goalie whose GSAx climbed from -2.4 to +1.8 over 8 weeks proves coachability—an elite trait.
Peer-Benchmarked Comparisons
Compare prospects against the average for their age group and competition level. See who's truly elite relative to their peers.
Sample Prospect Profile
John Doe | 2009 Birth Year | 14U AAA
12 games tracked | 428 shots faced
Traditional Stats
SV%: .898 | GAA: 3.2
CreaseLogic Metrics
GSAx: +3.2 | SVAx: +0.042 | RVA: +0.85
Save% by Shot Grade
Grade X: 68% | Grade A: 84% | Grade B: 89% | Grade C: 96%
Peer Comparison
Top 8% of 14U AAA goalies tracked this season. GSAx ranks 12th out of 147 goalies in age group.
Scout Summary
Traditional stats (.898 SV%) suggest average performance. CreaseLogic data reveals he faced 4.8 xG per game—highest workload in his league—and still posted elite GSAx. His rebound control (RVA: +0.85) is preventing nearly a goal per game via puck-killing. Projectability: High. Recommendation: Priority recruit.
De-Risk The Most Volatile Position
Goaltending is the hardest position to evaluate and the most expensive to get wrong. CreaseLogic gives you the objective data you need to make confident decisions.
If your program prioritizes prospects with verified CreaseLogic data, you effectively mandate its use downstream—aspiring goalies will build their profiles to become "eligible" for your consideration.
Become a data-driven program. Set a new standard for goaltender evaluation.
